Barely 24 days to the February 25, 2023 all important election scheduled for the emergence of Nigeria’s new head of state, institutions involved in the election processes have remained under attacks with critical equipments and infrastructure been destroyed thus putting a question mark on the possibility of the general election been held as planned. Top on the list of the institutions which have remained under attacks is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .

It was gathered that the INEC headquarter in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area was on Wednesday morning attacked by hoodlums using improvised devise Improvised Electronic Devise ( IED).

The gunmen also attacked a Police Station in Nnobi which is in the same local government area, as well as a residential building inside the station, where they killed a boy, and injured a girl.

It was gathered that the hoodlums arrived at about 1:45 am with four unmarked Sienna vehicles, armed with IEDs, Petrol bombs and other explosives.

Though the level of damage in the police station was not ascertained as at the time of filing this story, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Toochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incidents in a press statement.

Ikenga in a statement said that the attack happened at about 1:45 am on Wednesday, adding that the attackers came in huge number, and were ferried to the scenes of the incidents in four Toyota Sienna vehicles.

According to him, the command has made heavy deployment of security personnel around the state to forestall such atta ks in other places.

The statement partly read: “Anambra State Police Command today 1/2/2023 has reinforced security deployment in the state, following an attack on the INEC office in idemili south, Ojoto and Nnobi Police Station.

“The hoodlums came in their numbers at about  1:45 am today 1/2/2023, with four unmarked Sienna vehicles, armed with IEDs, Petrol bombs and other explosives.

“They invaded the INEC office, the Police Station and the residential building in the station. Unfortunately, one boy aged 16 years a relative of a serving policeman in the station was murdered by the armed men, while the other, a female aged 15 years old sustained a gunshot injury. She has been taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment.”
