Imo: Youths of host community fight Hospital Management over non recognition.

The Management of  the  joint Hospital and college of Nursing services in Mbano  local Government Area of Imo state is now contending with the youths of  Mbeke Umuezeala – Ama and Umueze 1 in the local Government Area .

The  angry youths , carrying  placards  jointly staged   protest  against the  management of the joint hospital and college of Nursing Sciences Mbano for allegedly neglecting them in the scheme of things

This   development  created some   anxiety at the hospital and college environment, thereby putting  the staff, students, patients and management,  of the  institutions confused state

According to the youths ” we are protesting, showing our anger against  the management  for a  breach of mutual agreements reached between our communities and the institutions in 1959.”

They further said  ” we have therefore issued a-4 day ultimatum to the management to address the issue or face total short down of the two Institutions”

However,  the  intervention of the traditional ruler of Ihim  community, Isiala Mbano council area Eze Oliver Ohanwe, saved the situation

In a 12-point demand presented to the hospital management, the youths insisted on open or free trade within and around the hospitals and institutions, non-restriction of any type against students, patients and traders in or outside the premises,

According  to them,  ” we  demand our  inclusion and 3 traditional rulers in the board  and management, of the Institutions “

Also non creation of a new mortuary road, engagement of external security men for security services instead of the land owners, formal land lease agreement between them and the hospital / Institutions in addition to the reconstruction of the Board of Directors in which the three (3) communities should be members.”

Others  demands  according to them are settlement of unpaid arrears of yearly royalty since 1956 to date as demanded by their fathers. 30% of every school admission year as their quota, first considerations in all appointments and award of contracts, 50% discount for medical treatments given to their people as well as special recognition in special events taking place in the Hospitals/Institution.

However, addressing the youths, Eze Oliver Ohanwe    called for peace, patience and under standing among them, noting that the youths agitation had becom trendy in developing society but appealed to them to remain calm and law abiding to enable the hospital management to look into their grievances.

Adding his voice, Chief Elias Onwumere (Omereoha) accused the hospital management of insincerity, selfishness nepotism and favouritism in piloting its affairs.

“These youths must enjoy the fruits of their fathers’ labour and if the hospital management are not prepared to meet our demand, let them vacate our land”.
