Imo State Commissioner of police Mr Nasiru Mohammed has warned officers and men of the command who still indulge in all forms of professional misconduct to desist forthwith or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner gave the warning tuesday while receiving members of the executive committee of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council in his office
He said that police men who humiliate or molest journalists doing their legitimate duties including other innocent members of the public would similarly not go unpunished.
The Commissioner further said that as watch dog of the society and those who inform, educate and enlighten the society, especially on the activities and operations of security agencies, the command would always make vital information available to them to avoid speculation and rumour
He promised to look into some of the challenges confronting journalist in the state for possible resolution but took exception to the
misinformation on the social media by some mischief makers and enjoined journalists to always get in touch with him for clarification before going to press.
The Police Chief who described the recent crises in Orlu and its resultant consequences as unfortunate said that he had held stakeholders meeting in Orlu and Okigwe to forestall recurrence of the incident and sued for partnership between the police and journalists in the state.
Chris Njoku-Chairman of the Chapel and State correspondent of the Nation Newspapers had earlier congratulated the CP on his appointment and assured him of the cooperation and support of journalists in the state in the fight against crime and criminality
